History of Zion Lutheran Church
Affiliation
Zion Lutheran Church has been a member of Lutheran Church Canada (LCC) since 1998. Prior to this, we were affiliated with The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), which has its origins in the United States of America.
The early years at Connaught Hill
Zion Lutheran Church was established in Prince George in 1924 when faithful souls of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod organized what became known as Connaught Hill Evangelical Lutheran Church under the guidance of Rev. Henry Kuring who held the first service on Christmas day of 1924 with 40 people in attendance.

The constitution was formalized in 1927, under the guidance of Rev. Alfred W. Trinklein, and the church was named Connaught Hill Evangelical Lutheran Church. The congregation rented the building of an abandoned Presbyterian Church from 1924 to 1928, and purchased it in 1928. The building was dedicated on Reformation Sunday, October 28, 1928.
The congregation, led by Rev. Harold Witte, celebrated the church’s 50th Anniversary on October 2, 1977.
The years at Tabor Boulevard

Zion Lutheran Church and Christian School on Tabor Boulevard
In 1988, a new church was built at 180 Tabor Blvd. The groundbreaking was on Easter Sunday, April 3, 1988. Rev. Charles Keogh led the dedication service on Thanksgiving Day, October 9, 1988, with 415 people in attendance. The name of the church was changed to Zion Lutheran Church. The church was built with a dozen classrooms, which were used for Sunday School until 1999, when the church once again began operating a Christian Day School. Over the years, renovations were made to make the rooms larger, and the name was changed to Zion Lutheran Church and Christian School.
Vanderhoof Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church entered into an agreement for the Pastor of Zion Lutheran Church to also serve Vanderhoof Lutheran Church. This arrangement was formalized in September 2017, when the Dual Parish Agreement was signed.
Zion Lutheran Church and Christian School celebrated its 100th Anniversary with a Dinner event on October 12, 2024, and a Celebration Service on October 13, 2024.
The Officiant for the Celebration Service was Rev. Robert Mohns, LCC West Regional Pastor.
Today
As of January 2026, Zion Lutheran Christian School has five classrooms, a school storage room, and a principal’s office. It uses three classrooms: Kindergarten to Grade 2, Grade 3 to 4, and Grade 5 to 7.
Rev. Kyle Eddy, our current pastor, came to us as a candidate from Concordia Lutheran Seminary in Edmonton, Alberta. He was installed on August 7, 2022.
Thanks be to God for the Grace He has shown us over the years and for providing shepherds to lead us, preach His Word, and administer the sacraments.
