Zion Handbell Choir

“Praise [the Lord] with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with tambourine and dancing, praise him with the strings and flute, praise him with the clash of cymbals …” (Psalm 150:3-5)

The Zion Handbell Choir is a multi-generational handbell choir which has been playing since 2013. Over the years, its members have been members of Zion Lutheran Church, Vanderhoof Lutheran Church, students and teachers from Zion Lutheran Christian School, and members of the community.

You can watch the Zion Handbell Choir playing three songs during the service on November 9th, 2025 on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcffCz6EAfw, starting at time stamp 15:30.

The choir plays in Zion services 4-6 times per year. They have also played at Vanderhoof Lutheran Church, as guests at Synergy Handbell concerts, and as guests at concerts in the Prince George community. They play 3-5 octaves of handbells and 3 octaves of handchimes.

Zion Handbell Choir, November 2025

The choir is always looking for new ringers. There is no requirement to be able to read music. There is a requirement to know your right hand from your left, to be able to count to four with some consistency, and to be able to laugh at your mistakes.

Zion Handbell Choir is directed by Gail Haeussler.

Quilting Group

Once a week on Tuesday, a few ladies of our congregation meet at the church for quilting and fellowship.

Finished quilts are donated to “It’s My Very Own – Bags of Love”, a faith-based non-profit organization that has helped displaced children in Northern B.C. since 2008.

When a child must be removed from their home for their own safety, these bags are
designed to help ease that transition. Often, a child must leave their home
immediately and cannot take anything with them, such as toys, clothes, or personal
items. Bags of Love provides them something to call their very own.

All the Bags of Love are age appropriate, divided between boys and girls in five different age categories from infants to 17 years old, containing a large stuffie, a quilted blanket, grooming items, toys, and books.

If you want to help Bags of Love by volunteering or donating, please contact local organizer Irene Lipovszky at irenal@shawcable.com or call 250-564-8967.

Volunteers preparing and assisting worship services as Altar Guild, Greeter, Reader, or Snack Provider

Here is a little overview of the various responsibilities:

Altar Guild
Put out and clean up communion ware for communion Sundays and change the paraments on the Altar as needed. This usually takes less than 15 minutes and can be done on Saturday or Sunday before the Worship Service.
During clean up, if there are more than 3 purificators in the basket, they are taken home to be washed.
Changing candles as required is also part of the Altar Guild. Training will be given as to how to do this.
When supplies are low, advise Randy Bobier to re-order.
Contact Penny Bobier if you are interested in joining the Altar Guild.

Greeting
Greet people as they enter the church and record attendance on the list provided.
Greeting usually starts around 10:15 a.m. – 15 minutes before worship service – on Sundays.
Contact Penny Bobier if you are interested in becoming a Greeter.

Reading
Read the Old Testament and Epistle lessons from the lectionary during the worship service on Sundays.
The passages can be given ahead of the service if requested.
Contact Randy Bobier if you are interested in becoming a Reader.

Snacks
Provide snacks for after worship fellowship (cookies, squares, muffins, cheese & crackers etc.).
Clean up tables, wash and dry dishes afterwards. Usually, members of the congregation will help with the clean up.
You can also be partnered up with someone else who would help you with all this.
Currently we have someone who makes the coffee.
Contact Penny Bobier if you are interested in becoming a Snack Provider.

All the above are on a rotation basis.

New Helpers will be partnered with an ‘experienced’ helper until they are comfortable to do their task on their own.
A 3-month schedule is made ahead of time and sent out by email for review. If a helper is aware at this time, that they will be unable to do their scheduled day, contact the sender of the email asap to have changes made before the final schedule is sent out. Once the final schedule is sent, helpers will need to contact someone else to trade days with.

If you want to know more about how you can help preparing for, and assisting at, worship services, please talk to Penny or use the contact form at the bottom of this page.

Prayer Chain

The prayer chain is a line of communication among Christians who are willing to be ‘On Call’ and will pray for any specific need for anyone who requests their prayers.

Please note that the members of the prayer chain will keep your prayer requests strictly confidential, unless you explicitly allow us to share them with the congregation!

If you have prayer requests you would like to share with the Prayer Chain and/or the congregation, please call the office at 250-562-2777, send an email to zion@zlcs.com, or use the contact form at the bottom of this page.

Let us pray.
Merciful Father, You are our refuge in every need.
Look with kindness on all who have asked for our prayers and on all who suffer in body, mind, or spirit. Give them patience and strength.
If it pleases You, grant them healing and relief.
Above all, keep them firm in faith and fill them with the hope of the resurrection and eternal life.
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Please continue to keep your brothers and sisters in Christ in your prayers.

If you want to know more about the Prayer Chain or would like to join them, please talk to Penny or use the contact form at the bottom of this page.
